Wagga Wagga x Tilly's

Jaz (00:00):
Hey there. Thanks for checking out My Mate In, uh, today I am having a chat with my mate, Ann in Wagga. I'm excited 'cause we haven't caught up for a while. Ann, how you doing?

Ann (00:09):
I'm awesome, thanks Jaz. Yourself?

Jaz (00:11):
I'm going really good. Let's dive in. Like what's, what's your place, what's your favorite place for food or drinks or, or just a place you like to go?

Ann (00:20):
Yeah, it just depends on, on who I'm going with and, and the budget at the time, I guess. So Thursday afternoon after work I caught up with a colleague and friend, friend, first colleague, second, Uhhuh . We went to Tilly's. I dunno whether you guys have been there or not. It's where the old Coco's used to be upstairs and it's now a like a, like a snacky place with a bar and they have music there on the weekends and they have all that sort of stuff there as well. So it's um, a good place to meet up after work.

Jaz (00:52):
Is this on Baylis Street?

Ann (00:53):
Yeah, yeah.

Jaz (00:53):
And was it like some franchise had moved in there for a couple of years? Like it's upstairs.

Ann (01:00):
Yeah, it's upstairs. I dunno about . Yeah, yeah. Mm.

Jaz (01:04):
With like a balcony that overlooks the main?

Ann (01:07):
Yeah, it was something else before Tilly's, but I dunno what it was. Cue Bar.

Jaz (01:12):
Cue Bar, yeah. Yeah. Okay, cool. And it's Tilly's now. So what's...

Ann (01:15):
It's called Tilly's.

Jaz (01:16):
What's the, what's the vibe? Like what, what's the kind of decor and feel?

Ann (01:20):
Well, it's in the wintertime they've got all that, um, balcony area enclosed with gazebos and, and heating and all that sort of stuff. So that's, you can still set out on the balcony and still see what's going on. It's just heated, um, for your pleasure now. So, which is really, which was really quite nice. I found that quite nice. And or you can sit inside, they have a happy hour between six and I think it's five and nine I think, or four and nine or something on a Thursday to something else. So you can get like jugs of cocktails, if that's your thing. .

Jaz (01:54):
Nice. It's good when you go with a group of people to share stuff as well.

Ann (02:00):
Yeah, yeah, yeah. So yeah. And it was, you know, we caught up and had a few nibbles and so that was dinner and had a wine or two and a jug or two of cocktails . So that was quite,

Jaz (02:12):
You have to sample the wares.

Ann (02:14):
Yeah, absolutely. .

Jaz (02:16):
And what kind of nibbles did you have for dinner?

Ann (02:19):
Uh, we had, uh, what did we have? We had like a, a flatbread and hummus plate. We had um, chicken nibbles, we had um, chips and we had uh, lamb lollipops, which were quite good. So

Jaz (02:34):
Lamb lollipops? Nice. Are they like a...

Ann (02:37):
Just cut like...

Jaz (02:37):
A fancy skewer.

Ann (02:39):
No, it was just an un-crumbed cutlet. .

Jaz (02:46):
That's awesome.

Ann (02:47):
I'm pretty sure that's all it is. An un-crumbed cutlet

Jaz (02:51):
With, cleverly named. I like it. Yeah.

Ann (02:54):
Yeah. Lamb lollipop. Yeah.

Jaz (02:57):
. Oh, that's awesome.

Ann (03:00):
So that's nice, you know.

Jaz (03:01):
And um, I'm wondering, um, is there anything else when you think of this place where like, hey, before you go here you should know this, this is cool about it. Or here's a practical thing.

Ann (03:11):
Um, there are lots of stairs, so be mindful going up and down the bloody things. But there is a lift if you are disabled and you can't get in and out, which is good. Which is awesome actually. So that's, that's quite good as well. Um, uh, when it's not happy hour, take your wallet. , like most things are expensive, so especially with alcohol and so forth these days. But other than that, it's not too bad. It's good for a, um, a group setting. Thursday nights...

Jaz (03:40):
Mm-hmm.

Ann (03:40):
...they have music bingo, . We didn't stick around for that, but they had music bingo going on after six o'clock I think it was. So yeah.

Jaz (03:48):
That sounds fine. .

Ann (03:50):
So we didn't stick around for that, but uh, the wait staff said it was, uh, you're listening to the music that they're playing and you literally just tick off on your sheet of paper what you are hearing.

Jaz (04:03):
Oh, I like that because it's low effort.

Ann (04:06):
Yeah.

Jaz (04:06):
You know, instead of like a trivia or something where you have to pay attention, you can still have conversation and you probably, if you're having a good time and you're drinking jugs of cocktails, you're probably like coming in and out of the game. .

Ann (04:17):
Yep. .

Jaz (04:20):
That's really cool.

Ann (04:21):
. So that's really good for a...

Jaz (04:23):
Was there? Sorry. Lovely. Cut you off.

Ann (04:25):
That's all right. Sorry. That's all right. I was just saying it's a good place for a group, um, to catch up after work and yeah.

Jaz (04:31):
Amazing.

Ann (04:31):
I kind enjoyed it. Hmm.

Jaz (04:33):
Yeah. Okay, well next time I'm, I'm in town. Can we go for a drink and a feed?

Ann (04:38):
Yeah. Sounds good to me. .
